ALTAMONT―The Altamont Fair opens its gates at noon on Tuesday, celebrating 133 years and promising six fun-filled days of animals, midway rides, entertainment, live music, demonstrations, agricultural exhibits and, of course, food.

Located at Route 146 and Arlington Street, the fairgrounds will be filled with family-favorite attractions and some incredible new shows.

At the grandstand this year is mini supercross racing, barrel racing, a rodeo, corgi races, and a demolition derby.

Each night features live music from bands like Cruisin’ Out Loud, Skeeter Creek, The Refrigerators, Big Sky Country, Maddhaus, and Hair of the Dog.

Returning for 2026 is the Royal Hanneford Circus, as well as racing pigs, Dynamo Dogs, puppet shows, a lumberjack show and more. The Little Mermen & the Princess Pals will bring Disney's beloved songs to life with a fun rockin' twist.

In true country fair fashion, there will also be watermelon seed spitting contests and an apple pie dessert competition.

The carnival midway is one of the largest in the area, featuring an abundance of rides, including a 110-foot Ferris wheel. Unlimited ride wristbands are in addition to fair admission, costing $25 on Tuesday and Wednesday, and $30 on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Admission for patrons 11 and older are $15 on Wednesday and Thursday; $17 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday; and $10 on Tuesday. Kids 10 and under are free. On Wednesday, admission is also free for senior citizens age 65 and up and active military members and veterans.

Serving as the official fair of Albany, Greene, and Schenectady counties, the Altamont Fair is the only three-county fair in New York and at 138 acres boasts one of the largest fairgrounds in the state.

Altamont hosted the first annual Albany County Fair in 1893. Schenectady County joined in 1922, and in 1945 the fair expanded to include Greene County. Over the years, the fair has only been canceled three times: in 1942 and 1943 during World War II and in 2020 due to the pandemic
