CAIRO―Thanks to the support of donors and volunteers, the twelfth annual Helping Our Vets BBQ at Lynch's Pot O' Gold Restaurant & Campground raised $17,613.
A true community effort, the Helping Our Vets BBQ is a fundraiser for local disabled veterans. To date, it has brought in well over one hundred thousand dollars that Pot O’ Gold owner KrisAnne Lynch explained stays right here in the local community.
Held on Saturday, August 8, the barbecue is co-hosted by American Legion Mohican Post 983 of Cairo and Catskill Elks Lodge Post 1341.
All money raised goes into a fund to help local disabled vets when they need a hand. To date, monies have paid to heat veteran’s homes, assisted with medical needs, and even covered the cost of a new handicapped ramp and deck for one vet’s house.
The idea for the fundraiser came from Lynch’s father, Morty Lynch, who is a U.S. Navy veteran himself. And it would not be possible, Lynch said, without the generosity of the community.
“People and businesses from across the county and beyond are really great about donating and coming out to support us,” Lynch said. “There are too many people to mention.”
“I don’t think people realize that we work on this all year long and it wouldn’t be possible without so many generous people,” she added.
