Porcupine Soup is an independent news site covering Greene County, situated amongst New York's majestic Catskill Mountains and scenic Hudson River.
Our readers are our neighbors who deserve honest, accurate and objective news coverage that is free of commercial or partisan interference. At Porcupine Soup, there are no paywalls and no subscriptions, making news accessible to everyone, not just consumers.
Founded in 2020 by locals Andrea Macko and Sylvia Hasenkopf, Porcupine Soup was honored as the Greene County Chamber of Commerce 2023 Small Business of the Year.
By 2025, our annual page views topped 3.2 million and our Facebook following grew to more than 20,000 people.
In 2026, Sylvia officially retired and Andrea proudly serves as owner and publisher.
