The Mountain Top Library in Tannersville will host a solo art exhibition featuring the watercolor paintings of artist Jerrice J. Baptiste. Opening reception from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Come spend the morning exploring the science of fire! Professor Sparks and her robot canine companion, Spot 2000, will present an interactive program that is full of surprises!

All are invited for a free, fun afternoon of libations, a make-your-own stamped card activity, winter-themed tours, and more to welcome in the New Year at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site. Winter house tours will be available for $15/person. Limited availability.

Mini Rummage Sale at United Methodist Church of Coxsackie, located at 103 Mansion Street. Hours are Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Food sale and lunch served both days.

Free fixing and mending with Repair Café at the Catskill Firehouse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Electrical, mechanical, electronics, sewing/mending, wood repair/gluing, knife and tool sharpening.

The 4th annual Red Barn Riders RC Winter Bar-B-Cue, an indoor summer-themed event at Blackthorne Resort Bar. $10 donation includes DJ’d music, free hotdogs and burgers, vendors, raffles, outside campfires and more. Thacher State Park’s annual Ice Fishing Competition! Cash prizes for the longest fish in Pickerel, Trout, and Perch categories. Traina’s Bait and ‘At First Bite’ Food Truck will be in attendance. Minimum of eight inches of ice required. Registration from 6-9 a.m. Fishing and measurements continue to 1 p.m. $10 registration fee; kids under 12 fish for free. Save the date for a favorite winter event! The Huyck Preserve’s annual Winter Fest will take place, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Includes indoor and outdoor activities that are fun for the whole family! There will be local vendors, live animals, educational demonstrations, hot food and drink, and outdoor winter activities (weather dependent). Come spend a day in the winter wonderland of the Huyck Preserve.

Hear from a state DEC wildlife biologist about black bears lifestyle and habitat, while learning safety tips and best practices to coexist with bears while avoiding unwanted encounters at home or on the trail.

Learn from Columbia-Greene Master Gardener Volunteers and staff across multiple workshop tracks, including gardening basics, garden maintenance, food and non-food gardening, and wildlife and habitat. Vendors, plant and tool demos, raffles, lunch and baked goods prepared by Master Gardener Volunteers, networking with fellow gardening enthusiasts and much more. Admission: $45.
