Third Annual Chad’s Fall Foliage Ride & Fundraiser

There are plenty of reasons to love riding through the Catskills in October. The changing leaves, the cool mountain air, winding roads and the incredible scenery make fall one of the best times of year to get on a motorcycle. But every once in a while, a ride comes along where the destination isn't nearly as important as the reason you're riding.

On Saturday, October 10, the Red Barn Riders RC will host the Third Annual Little Chad’s Fall Foliage Ride & Fundraiser, and this is one ride that comes with a very personal reason behind it. The day is being held to help eight-year-old Little Chad, the grandson of Red Barn Riders RC President Bill Hillicoss.

If you've ever attended a Red Barn Riders events, there's a good chance you've seen Little Chad. He's the little blonde-haired boy wearing the vest with the "Red Barn Riders RC JR" patch proudly displayed on the back. Little Chad has been diagnosed with colitis.

Although he is doing better, his condition has meant frequent trips to the hospital and a very specific diet. The cost of the food he needs, along with the medical expenses and travel involved with his treatment, has created an additional burden for his family.

That's where the Red Barn Riders step in. This isn't about selling tickets or making a profit. It's a free-will donation ride and fundraiser, giving everyone an opportunity to contribute whatever they can.

Riders will meet at The Milk Run, 3498 State Route 145 in East Durham, with sign-up running from 10 a.m. until noon. At 12:15 p.m. sharp, the kickstands will go up and the ride will head out for an amazing fall ride through the Catskills, and the Red Barn Riders RC are known for their knowledge of some of the beautiful roads in the Catskills.

You don't have to be a motorcycle rider to be part of this one. The after run fundraiser starts at 3 p.m. at Nussy's Bier Garten at Riedlbauer's Resort, 57 Ravine Drive in Round Top.

There will be DJed music by LJ James The Biker DJ, raffles, a 50/50, and food and drinks available for purchase. So bring the family, bring some friends and come spend some time with the Red Barn Riders while helping a local family.

What stands out to me about events like this is that they remind us what community is supposed to look like. The Red Barn Riders have always been involved in helping others, but there is something especially meaningful about seeing a club rally around one of its own.

They take care of others, and when one of their own needs help, they call on everyone to come help take care of one of their own.

So, if you're looking for a reason to enjoy the Catskills at the peak of its fall glory, here's your big chance. Come ride. Come donate. Come enjoy the afternoon. Or simply come out and show Little Chad and his family that they're not alone.
