There are some events that come and go, and then there are those that leave you talking about them long after the last jack-o'-lantern has gone dark. The Haunted Hayride, hosted by Charlie Henderson and his family at the Freehold Fire Department, was definitely one of those events.
As darkness settled in, the fires began glowing, torches flickered, and the sounds of laughter and screams filled the air. From the moment you arrived, you could tell this wasn't going to be an ordinary hayride. There was something special about the atmosphere, something that made you feel like you had stepped into another reality.
One of the highlights was the incredible setting. As the hayrides made their way through a real graveyard, guests were surrounded by flickering torches and open flames casting eerie shadows across the tombstones. Little tiki torches lit up the darkness, creating an almost medieval atmosphere that looked like something straight out of a horror movie. You could imagine yourself being transported into some evil past. Add spooky decorations and unexpected characters emerging from the woods, and you had an experience that was both impressive and downright creepy. The attention to detail really brought the entire setting to life.
With two hayrides running, families and visitors kept coming, filling the wagons with excitement. As the rides traveled through the graveyard and along the spooky trails, there was no shortage of surprises. People were laughing, screaming, and enjoying every minute of it. You never knew what might appear from the darkness or what might be waiting just beyond the trees. It was the perfect combination of Halloween excitement, family entertainment, and just enough fright to make you feel that tingle on the back of your neck.
Now let's talk about the value! For just $10 per person, guests received their choice of a hamburger or hot dog, chips, drinks, and even cookies, along with the hayride experience. That's a whole lot of Halloween fun for a very reasonable price. In a time when family entertainment can get expensive, it's refreshing to see an event that delivers so much without breaking the bank.
It really impressed me how well the entire event came together. It had all the charm, friendliness, and community spirit you'd expect from a small-town gathering, but the organization, presentation, and overall quality were right up there with a much larger professional production. From the real life cemetery atmosphere to the scary characters along the trails, it was obvious that a lot of thought and effort went into making this a memorable Halloween experience.
A huge round of applause to Charlie Henderson, his family and the entire crew for putting together something this cool.
This is already an event I'm looking forward to attending again next year. If you missed it, put it on your calendar for next Halloween! This event and the entire crew involved really delivered!
