COXSACKIE―Since opening in Greenville fourteen years ago, Kelly’s Pharmacy has continued to grow its footprint with three more locations.
Now, the family-owned business is about to expand once again. Not to a new town, but to a new building.
The Kelly’s recently acquired 370 Mansion Street in West Coxsackie, the previous temporary location of the Greene County’s Sheriff’s Office and, before that, a Bank of Greene County branch.
“We closed on the building back in May,” explained Quinn Kelly, co-owner and pharmacist.
“We have our public hearing with the planning board in a few weeks, and then it’s off to the races once we have our building permits,” he said.
West Coxsackie was the first community Kelly’s Pharmacy expanded to in 2014 and their current location is within Hope Plaza.
“We are absolutely thrilled with the building. Having a freestanding location that is the perfect size for our growing and expanding business is going to give us so much more flexibility going forward,” said Kelly.
The Coxsackie business has grown tremendously over the last few years, noted Kelly, who believes the town deserves a pharmacy with a drive-thru.
“It’s become too important and too busy of a pharmacy not to have one,” he said, confirming that they will be utilizing the building’s existing drive-up window.
“The property is zoned for it and that was a major factor in purchasing that specific building,” Kelly added.
“Of course, we still want to see everyone inside the store and continue having the same personal relationships and conversations we’ve had with people in Coxsackie for the last decade,” he said. “The drive-thru simply gives people another option and makes interacting with Kelly’s Pharmacy even easier and more convenient.”
Over the years, Kelly’s Pharmacy has won numerous awards and accolades, including being honored as the Greene County Chamber of Commerce 2022 Small Business of the Year. In 2021, the independent pharmacy was presented with a New York State Senate Empire Award by Senator Michelle Hinchey. Kelly’s was the first pharmacy in New York State to partner with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to collect potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Early on during the pandemic, their Greenville location served as one of the only sites in Greene County to offer COVID-19 testing.
In 2023, the business expanded to Delmar and last month acquired O'Brien Pharmacy in Ballston Spa.
Kelly attributes much of the pharmacy’s success to his employees.
“If we didn’t have incredible staff in all of our stores we would never be able to grow the way we have. It’s having people we trust to take care of our stores and our patients the right way that allows us to continue growing effectively,” he said.
Kelly hopes to be in the new Mansion Street location before the end of the year.
“That’s the goal, but a lot has to go right for that to happen,” he said. “It’s definitely not impossible, but we’ll be hustling for sure. Worst case, we’re looking at early 2027.”
