RAVENA―On April 21, while surrounded by hundreds of fellow child welfare advocates, Justice For Orphans’ Executive Director Kathi Sewak was called onstage at Kansas City’s iconic Union Station to accept the 2025 CarePortal Network of the Year Award.

“Since bringing CarePortal’s care-sharing technology to New York in 2018, our team has worked tirelessly to create and support a vast network of child-serving professionals, community members, local businesses and organizations, and local churches who work together to bring about positive change in the lives of vulnerable children and families,” says Sewak.

“Everyone at Justice For Orphans is honored to be recognized for our hard work and dedication,” she said.

Justice For Orphans (JFO) was named the 2025 CarePortal Network of the Year Award in recognition of the organization’s consistent and effective pursuit of meaningful connections that benefit at-risk children and families in New York’s Capital Region and Hudson Valley. JFO not only onboards and trains network participants but also supports those participants by hosting regular virtual gatherings for learning and collaboration, consistently pursuing financial and physical resources, and offering opportunities for them to learn about and better understand the effects of foster care and poverty.

Justice For Orphans was founded in 2012 by Sandra Flach and Mary Slager. These adoptive and foster moms were wrecked by the global orphan crisis and the national foster care crisis. What began as advocacy and conferences has grown into a robust organization offering community care solutions, family support programs, and trauma-informed training. With a mission rooted in collaboration, compassion, and prevention, Justice For Orphans continues to build bridges between those who need help and those who can give it.
