ALBANY― The New York State Telecommunications Association (NYSTA) announced Wednesday the appointment of Mark Evans of as its new chairman of the board.
As vice president of his family-owned State Telephone Company, Inc. (State Tel), a provider of internet and phone services in the Ravena, Coxsackie, and Athens areas, Evans has played a pivotal role in the company’s growth, NYSTA noted.
He has overseen operations, regulatory affairs, and new business development, including leading a $10.8 million New NY Broadband Grant project that resulted in 250 miles of new fiber optic cable—the largest expansion in State Tel’s history.
“We are thrilled to have Mark Evans step into the role of Chairman of the Board,” said Craig J. Miller, president of NYSTA.
“Mark’s deep industry knowledge, proven track record in expanding broadband access, and commitment to serving New York’s communities make him an ideal leader for our association as we continue advocating for universal connectivity, fair pole attachment policies, and regulatory reforms that benefit both providers and consumers across the state,” Miller added.
In his new position, Evans will guide NYSTA’s strategic direction, working closely with member companies, policymakers, and stakeholders to advance broadband expansion, support rural telecommunications infrastructure, and address key challenges facing the industry.
“I am honored to serve as chairman of the board for NYSTA,” said Evans. “This association has been instrumental in uniting New York’s telecom providers to ensure reliable, high-speed connectivity reaches every corner of our state.”
“I look forward to building on our successes and collaborating with our members to tackle the evolving needs of our industry and the communities we serve,” added Evans.
A longtime advocate for rural broadband deployment, Evans is also mayor of the Village Coxsackie. In addition, he is president of Greene County Emergency Medical Systems (EMS) and serves on the board of Greene County Rural Health Network.
NYSTA represents more than 40 telecommunications carriers and over 100 suppliers and vendors across New York State. Founded in 1921, the association is dedicated to promoting the interests of the telecommunications industry through advocacy, education, and collaboration.
