CAIRO―Local nonprofit organizations gathered at Bank of Greene County’s Cairo branch to receive funding from Bank of Greene County Charitable Foundation, supporting projects that strengthen and enrich the local community.

As part of this year’s giving efforts, the Foundation is awarding $534,000 to 532 nonprofit organizations throughout the region, providing critical support to programs that address a wide range of local needs.

Funded projects in the Cairo area reflect a strong focus on community, safety, and support for local families and youth. Highlights include the restoration of the Cairo-Durham Middle/High School Memory Garden and 9/11 Memorial courtyard, expanded food assistance through weekly distribution programs and the Cairo-Durham Backpack Program, and support for families in need throughout the school district.

Additional funding is helping enhance community spaces such as Black Bear Park, strengthen public safety through equipment for the Fire Police Unit, and provide opportunities for local youth through summer programming and scholarships. Support was also provided for community events, including enhancements to the East Durham Irish Festival.

A full listing of funded organizations can be found on the Bank’s website at www.tbogc.com/about/giving.

“We see firsthand how much these organizations do for our communities, and it’s incredibly rewarding to support those efforts,” said Christa Bush, Cairo branch manager. “These funds help turn important ideas into real impact in our community.”

“We believe deeply in the power of giving back and strengthening the communities we serve,” added Donald Gibson, president and CEO of Bank of Greene County Charitable Foundation.

“Through the Foundation, we are committed to investing in programs that strengthen our communities and improve the quality of life across the region,” Gibson added.

Since its founding in 1998, Bank of Greene County Charitable Foundation has donated over $4 million to local nonprofit organizations throughout the region. These contributions support a wide variety of initiatives across education, health and wellness, social and civic services, the arts, and affordable housing.

Bank of Greene County and its Charitable Foundation will continue to dedicate time and resources to organizations that enhance the quality of life throughout the greater Hudson Valley and Capital Region. Grant applications are accepted annually between December 1 and January 15. More information is available at www.tbogc.com.
