GREENVILLE— There’s a new spot to roll, trade and rediscover a little childhood nostalgia.

Hero's Quest Collectibles in the Tops Plaza on State Route 32 is a throwback treasure trove, packed with cards, collectibles, action figures, vintage board games and video games unmistakable to those who grew up in the ‘80s and ‘90s.

The proprietor is Windham's own Jesse Matthews who specializes in buying, trading and selling non-sports collectibles. He got started in the business while living in Tennessee, recently moved back to the area, and ran a shop in Durham before expanding to the current Greenville location.

Walk in and you'll find ThunderCats and Batman figures next to old NES and Sega cartridges, cardboard cutouts, classic sci-fi and fantasy, and shelves of board games and tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons and Star Wars.

Hero's Quest hosts regular card tournaments, including pre-release parties for Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering. At a pre-release, players show up, buy a box with six boosters inside, open the packs to build a deck on the spot, and play against other players from the area.

"We are local and we want to give something back to the community," said Matthews, whose goal was to create a place for people to gather and participate in nostalgic media.

"Anybody can buy something online, but by coming here it serves as a checkpoint for these people to come and engage with other interested parties,” he says. “To form relationships with those people over the same passions.”

Hero's Quest Collectibles is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. but stays open late for special events with snacks and drinks available in-store for purchase.
