Last call is Sunday for Frank Guido’s Port of Call

CATSKILL―Frank Guido’s Port of Call is synonymous with mouthwatering seafood and Italian dishes, served with a breathtaking waterfront view.

But after 27 years in Catskill, the renowned restaurant will serve its last table on Sunday, September 13.

“Unfortunately, due to some recent health issues of mine, my son Mark and I have decided to sell Frank Guido’s Port of Call in Catskill,” Guido announced.

Guido, 80, is currently undergoing treatment for lung cancer.

“We wish the new owner, Peter Schram, the very best and hope he has as much success and enjoyment as we have had in Catskill over the past 30 years,” said Guido.

The sale was expected to close this month. Schram hails from Claverack and will reportedly be reopening the restaurant as an events venue.

“For the past 60 years, the Guido family has had the honor and privilege of serving generations of friends and neighbors at our many restaurants,” Guido said.

He opened his first pizza parlor and bar in Ulster County back in the 1960s and since then, the family has owned more than two dozen restaurants across the Hudson Valley.

Guido purchased 7 Main Street, known as Mike’s Point, in 1999 and initially called it Mariner’s Point before changing to its current name.

Customers have come from far and wide for fresh oysters and steamers, crab cakes, seafood specialties, steaks, pastas and more, including Guido’s famous lobster bakes and birthday dinners.

This week, Guido thanked his customers for their support and friendship.

“We especially want to thank the best staff in the world for your loyalty and understanding,” he said. “We wish you all the best. We love you all.”

The family will continue to operate Frank Guido’s Little Italy in Kingston, serving homemade Italian classics that helped make Guido one of the most prominent restaurateurs in the region.

There, Guido said, “we expect to be serving you for another 60 years.”
