Police: Man sleeping at gas station had loaded pistol

CATSKILL―A man found sleeping in his car is now facing felony charges after police say he had a loaded pistol.
Around 4:44 a.m. on Thursday, officers from the Catskill Police Department were dispatched to the Speedway gas station parking lot on West Bridge Street for a report of a suspicious person sleeping inside a vehicle.
Responding officers allegedly discovered that the man, identified as 68-year-old Mariano Gomez Rodriguez of Jacksonville, FL, was in possession of a loaded Ruger Security-9 pistol containing 12 rounds of ammunition.
Rodriguez was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies.
He was arraigned in Catskill Town Court and remanded to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail, which he has since posted.
Rodriguez is scheduled to appear in Catskill Town Court at a later date.
