Hudson River Maritime Museum to host Corridor of Commerce Day

KINGSTON―The Hudson River Maritime Museum will host Hudson Valley 250 & Beyond: Corridor of Commerce Day on Saturday, October 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Presented in cooperation with the Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area and the Hudson River Valley Greenway, this free public event will celebrate the Hudson River’s enduring role in shaping the communities and industries of the Hudson Valley.

From shipbuilding and canal commerce to ice harvesting, transportation, and lighthouse keeping, the Hudson River has long been a vital corridor connecting people, goods, and ideas. Visitors will discover this rich history through participating regional organizations, special activities, free museum tours, and rides aboard HRMM’s 100% solar-powered Solaris.

Participating organizations include the Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area, Reher Center, Clearwater, Century House Historical Society, D&H Canal Historical Society, Hudson River Ice Yacht Association, and Hudson-Athens Lighthouse.

Representatives will share stories and information about the Hudson Valley’s maritime, industrial, environmental, and cultural heritage.

In addition to meeting participating organizations, visitors can enjoy free tours of the Hudson River Maritime Museum and explore its exhibits and historic vessels. Solaris will offer rides to the Rondout Lighthouse throughout the day, providing a unique perspective on the river and one of its historic navigational landmarks. Rides will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, weather conditions permitting.
