GREENVILLE―The Greenville Central School District Board of Education has appointed Todd Hilgendorff to serve as interim superintendent.
Hilgendorff, the district’s assistant superintendent for business, has worked in educational leadership at GCS since 2013.
Superintendent Michael Bennett announced last month that he will be stepping down on April 13 to take a position with the New York State Education Department. He came to GCS in March of 2022.
The board of education is currently working with Frame Superintendent Search, LLC to assist in finding a permanent replacement for Bennett.
“Because we will be working through a full search over the next few months, the board undertook a separate process to find an interim superintendent who can close out the current school year,” the board stated.
“After interviewing multiple interim candidates, we believe that appointing our assistant superintendent for business, Mr. Todd Hilgendorff, provides the necessary continuity to close out the current school year, and is a fiscally responsible decision,” the board added.
“We appreciate Mr. Hilgendorff’s willingness to serve as our Interim Superintendent while continuing with his current responsibilities,” the board stated.
Before serving as assistant superintendent for business, Hilgendorff was Greenville’s high school principal and, later, director of curriculum. He previously taught middle school science at the Guilderland Central School District.
A resident of Round Top, Hilgendorff also serves as a member of the Cairo-Durham Board of Education.
A farewell reception is planned for Bennett on Monday, April 13 at 5 p.m. in the high school library.
