DURHAM―A GoFundMe has been created for the Durham man who was seriously injured when his motorcycle was struck by a car in Catskill this week.

Ronald Edwards, 64, and a 40-year-old female passenger from Catskill were airlifted to Albany Medical Center following the crash that happened around 9:16 p.m. Monday on State Route 32 near the old Carson City theme park.

“Ron is now facing a broken femur, fractured neck, elbow, brain bleed, rotator cuff injury, broken ribs, and the difficult reality of having his left leg amputated due to it beyond repair. Our family is doing everything we can to support him through this traumatic time,” according to his daughter-in-law, Jackie Edwards, who established the fundraising page.

He faces a long road to recovery and Jackie Edwards says money raised will help pay for things like temporary care for his dogs, medical expenses and home expenses.

“Insurance will be a lengthy process, but we want to keep Ron comfortable and give him the best chance at healing,” she said.

As of Friday night, the GoFundMe had raised more than $6,100 of the $14,000 goal.

The identity of Edwards’ passenger has not been released but State Police reported this week that she was in stable condition.

According to troopers, Edwards was traveling north on his 2001 Harley Davidson when a southbound 2004 Toyota sedan attempted to make a left turn into a driveway. The motorcycle collided with the car, ejecting both riders, troopers said.

The driver of the Toyota, 20-year-old Kaitlyn M. Holley of Alfred, NY, was not injured and has not been charged.
