HUDSON—On Monday, Columbia Memorial Health (CMH) celebrated the ribbon cutting of the newly renovated Susan Evans Koskey Family Room at the CMH Main Campus in Hudson.

The thoughtfully redesigned space was created to support patients, families, and caregivers by providing a welcoming, calming, and comfortable environment during times of care and healing.

The project was made possible through the generosity and partnership of Richard Koskey & Family, The Community Hospice Foundation, St. Peter’s Health Partners, and the Columbia Memorial Health Foundation.

“This space represents something deeply important in health care: compassion beyond clinical care. Families and caregivers often spend long hours supporting loved ones during difficult moments,” said Dorothy M. Urschel, DNP, president & CEO of CMH.

“Creating spaces that offer comfort, dignity, and peace is part of how we care for our community. As Columbia Memorial Health continues our commitment to being the first choice for care in our region, investments like the Susan Evans Koskey Family Room reflect our dedication to supporting the full patient and family experience. We are profoundly grateful to the Koskey family and all of our partners who helped bring this vision to life,” Urschel added.

Designed to offer families a dedicated place for respite, reflection, and connection while remaining close to loved ones receiving care, the refreshed family room features updated furnishings, warm finishes, and a supportive atmosphere intended to ease stress during hospital visits and extended stays.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony brought together hospital leadership, donors, community partners, Foundation representatives, and staff to recognize the collaboration and generosity that made the renovation possible.

“This project demonstrates the meaningful impact that philanthropy can have on the health care experience,” said Shanna Mazzelli, executive director of the Columbia Memorial Health Foundation.

“Every enhancement we make to the patient and family experience strengthens our mission to provide exceptional care close to home and reinforces CMH as a trusted health care partner for our community,” Mazzelli said.
