ALBANY—Albany Med Health System has fired President and CEO Daniel T. Pickett III, a month after placing him on paid administrative leave amid allegations of sexual assault made by a former girlfriend.

The health system's board of directors made the announcement on Wednesday, November 4.

“After thoughtful and careful deliberation, the Albany Med Health System Board has voted unanimously to terminate the employment of President and CEO Daniel T. Pickett, III, effective immediately,” the board said in a statement.

The health system includes Albany Medical Center, Albany Medical College, Glens Falls Hospital, Saratoga Hospital, Columbia Memorial Health in Hudson and the Visiting Nurses Association.

“The Board’s review focused on the best interest of our employees, our community, and the System and its ability to execute its mission, leading the Board to determine that a leadership change was necessary,” the board said.

Pickett was placed on administrative leave in early October as the board reviewed allegations made against him by the woman.

She has accused Pickett of sexually assaulting her in February 2025 while she was asleep in a New York City apartment he had leased for them. The allegation was made in court filings related to an ongoing property dispute between Pickett and the woman, whom he dated for approximately 15 months.

He has denied the sexual assault allegation and filed a $1 million defamation lawsuit against her.

According to court filings, the woman obtained an order of protection against Pickett after reporting the alleged assault to New York City police in March 2026. The police investigation was closed within days, and Pickett has not been criminally charged.

Pickett, a Saratoga County resident, had served as president and CEO of Albany Med Health System since December 2025.

Executive Vice President and General Counsel Matthew Jones, who assumed leadership responsibilities last month, will continue serving as acting CEO.

The board said it will conduct a national search for a permanent replacement.
