DURHAM―A Quiet Place III is set to be released next summer. But unlike the movie’s title, a bucolic dead-end road in Durham was anything but quiet on Monday as film crews shot scenes in what will possibly be the final chapter in the sci-fi horror franchise.

Decker Lane was lined with trucks, trailers, vans and even a big white tent as a consistent flow of traffic came in and out. At the Michael J. Quill Irish Cultural and Sports Centre off State Route 145, more vehicles filled the upper field where film crews are using the site as their base camp.

A Quiet Place III is expected to continue the story of a family struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by blind extraterrestrials with a keen sense of hearing.

Returning as director, writer and producer is John Krasinski, best recognized for his role as Jim Halpert on the NBC sitcom The Office. The leading star is Krasinski’s real-life wife, Emily Blunt.

Known for her roles in The Devil Wears Prada, Oppenheimer and Disney’s Into the Woods, Blunt also starred in Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi thriller that hit theaters this year and filmed partly in Greene County in 2025.

The original A Quiet Place, released in 2018, earned Blunt a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor. It also grossed more than $341 million worldwide.

A Quiet Place II, which came out in 2021, brought in nearly $298 million.

A Quiet Place III, according to IMDb, will also star Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Jack O’Connell, Jason Clarke and Katy O’Brian.

Paramount is scheduled to release A Quiet Place III on July 30, 2027. To date, filming has also taken place in New York City.

Over the years, Greene County has been the site of numerous shoots for music videos, television shows, and movies.

In 2012, the History Channel’s American Pickers was in Cairo and scenes from an episode of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress were shot at the Historic Catskill Point. A year earlier, an episode of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey was filmed at B&B Lounge in Catskill.

Mary Stuart Masterson’s The Cake Eaters was shot in Catskill in 2007 and in 2005 Steven Spielberg descended on Athens to film scenes for the blockbuster War of the Worlds, starring Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning.

In 2024, Warner Bros. Pictures was in Windham filming a scene for The Bride, a science fiction horror film with a celebrity cast that includes Penélope Cruz, Annette Bening and Julianne Hough.
