William J. “Billy” Alfeld, Jr., 58, of Cairo, passed away on September 6, 2026.

He was born in Catskill on October 7, 1967, to William J. and Agnes Krieg Alfeld.

Billy was a one-of-a-kind man who found joy in the simple things in life and left an impression on everyone who knew him. His resilience was truly admirable. No matter what life put in front of him, Billy kept going. Even through the hardest of times, he never complained. He carried himself with a quiet strength and toughness that those who loved him will never forget.

Billy loved long car rides, especially with his son, Wess, being outdoors, and gathering facts about just about anything and everything. If there was something to learn, Billy wanted to know it and if he didn't know the facts, he'd make one up. He had a curious mind and could turn even the simplest conversation into a story.

Billy loved to have fun. He was always pulling pranks and playing practical jokes, and you never quite knew when he was going to get you. His sense of humor was such a big part of who he was, and the stories of the jokes he played will undoubtedly be told for years to come.

He loved Bob Marley, a good plate of steamers, and a cold one on his back deck. He appreciated the simple pleasures in life and, most of all, the moments spent enjoying them.

Above all, Billy loved his family, especially his sons, William and Westin, who meant the world to him.

Billy will be remembered for his strength, his resilience, his curiosity, and his mischievous sense of humor. He will be remembered for the way he could find joy in the little things, for never giving up easily, and for always leaving people with a story to tell.

Billy was truly one of a kind. His memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and love he left behind and in the hearts of everyone who was lucky enough to know him.

Survived by his son William J. (Melissa) Alfeld III; his mother Agnes Krieg Alfeld; his sister Bonnie (Joe) Ecker; and his beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his father William J. Alfeld, Sr., and son Westin S. Alfeld.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 10 from 4-7 p.m. at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. A graveside service will begin at noon on Friday, September 11 in Round Top Cemetery.
