Stella Hokula passed away peacefully in her home on May 23, 2026.

Stella was born in Alexander, NY to Mary and Steven Kruszelnicki on May 27, 1936. She lived much of her life in Poughkeepsie where she and her husband raised four children after which they retired to Catskill.

Stella was a devoted wife and mother and a very proud grandmother. She was a woman of strong faith and was a happy member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish. Stella is widely known as a big-hearted, generous lady with incredible strength and stamina, but doting on her family was her passion and her priority.

Stella is survived by her husband Thaddeus of 66 years, children Mark Hokula, Mary Slater and Ann DePaolo, grandchildren Abby Shovlin, Teddy Hokula, Kevin DePaolo, Joey DePaolo, six great-grandchildren, her sister Rose Grajek, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Joseph Hokula.

Family and friends will gather at St. Patrick’s Church, 66 William Street, Catskill on Tuesday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Poughkeepsie on Friday at 2:30 pm (please check back on Wednesday to confirm the burial time at Calvary Cemetery). Deacon Ron Dombrowski will officiate.
