Ralph E. Van Hoesen Jr., 72, of Catskill, New York, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Ralph was the son of the late Ralph E. Van Hoesen Sr. and Eliese H. Van Hoesen. He was a graduate of Catskill High School, SUNY Delhi, and Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse, New York in 1975, then becoming a New York State licensed funeral director for 50 years.

Ralph dedicated more than 30 years of his professional life to Verizon. Working in Long Island, New York; Greene County, New York; and Colorado. Following his retirement, he continued a family tradition that was close to his heart, following in the footsteps of his grandparents, Harry and Lucy, who founded Millspaugh Funeral Home in Catskill, which is now celebrating their 100 years in business. Through his work in funeral service, Ralph carried on with their legacy of serving families in the Catskill community with compassion and care.

He discovered his love of skiing at an early age, and cherished the many days spent on the slopes, whether it be at Hunter Mtn, NY or the many Colorado skiing trips he took and loved. Ralph's trips to Colorado were made even more special by visiting his sister, Eliese "Petey," and brother-in-law, Bill, and sharing time together on and off the slopes.

He was a member of First Reformed Church and Full Life Church, where his faith and compassion were reflected in his willingness to serve others. He especially enjoyed volunteering at the food pantry at Full Life Church, helping to provide food and support to those in need. His generosity and caring spirit touched many lives. One of his greatest joys was gardening, and Ralph took great pride in growing fresh vegetables and generously sharing them with family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who could use them. He found happiness in nurturing his garden and even greater joy in providing for others. In addition, he loved cooking hearty soups and baking delicious breads and other treats to share with those in the community.

Ralph was a devoted caregiver to both of his parents, giving them his time, love, and support. His dedication to his parents was a reflection of his compassionate and selfless nature.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Eliese "Petey" and Bill Person of Boulder, Colorado; his faithful canine companion, Buddy; his aunt; and many cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be held on October 7, 2026, from 9-11 a.m. at Full Life Church, 3 Bogardus Avenue, Catskill, New York. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Town of Catskill Cemetery.
