Pauline Palmateer, age 99, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home.
Born on November 8, 1926, in Catskill, New York, Pauline was the daughter of Rose and Eugene Salvino Sr. Raised by Mary and Paul Salvino, she spent her entire life in Athens, New York, in the community she loved and proudly called home. On October 27th, 1946, she married the love of her life, Lawrence Alonzo Palmateer Jr., and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith as they raised nine children.
Pauline held many jobs throughout her life, but the role she cherished most—and the one at which she truly excelled—was being a mother. Her children lovingly describe her as a true Renaissance woman. She was hardworking, talented, and endlessly creative. She successfully operated the Second Street Revival, a local pizza restaurant, and took on various other jobs over the years, always bringing energy and determination to everything she did.
Her creativity extended well beyond her work. Pauline had a lifelong love of music especially enjoyed musical theater and participated in numerous local productions. Young at heart until the very end, she loved to sing, dance, attend local events, and spend time with the people she loved most: her family. She had a gift for making others smile and found joy in life's simple pleasures.
More than anything, Pauline was the heart of her family. She was a pillar of her community, a source of unwavering strength, and a constant example of resilience and unconditional love. Her influence can be seen in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will carry her legacy forward for generations.
Pauline was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence Palmateer Jr.; her firstborn daughter, Paula Butler, and her siblings; Carmella, Madeline, Ann, Mary, Phillip, Albert, Jeanie, Eugen Jr.
She is lovingly survived by her children: Lawrence (Sandy) Palmateer, Patrice (Philip) Miller, Paulette (Carl) Travis, Pamela (Donald) Fontaine, Lance (Christine) Palmateer, Lee Allen (Nancy) Palmateer, Peggy (Stephen) Cerquone, and Leo (Stephanie) Palmateer. She also leaves behind 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren (with two more on the way), as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors whose lives were enriched by her kindness and love.
