MaryAnn Henderson, 89, of Athens, New York, passed away peacefully at home amongst family on July 9, 2026.
Born on August 27, 1936, in Poughkeepsie and grew up in Hopewell Junction, New York. MaryAnn lived a life centered on faith, family and love.
MaryAnn was predeceased by her beloved husband, of nearly 50 yrs John “Jack” Henderson; her parents, Kathleen (Gilligan) and Daniel Quinlan; her brothers, Eugene and John Quinlan; her sisters-in-law, Marilyn Gordon and Joyce Klett; and her daughter-in-law, Charlene Henderson.
She is lovingly survived by her children, Jack, Tom, Jamie (Joanne), and Kathleen (Paul). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Jonathan, Heather, Jason, Sean, Jeffrey, Rachel, and Bobby; her adored great-grandchildren, Jon Paul, Jack, Vivian, André, and Amelia; her sister-in-law, TommyAnn Dorpfeld; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her dearly.
MaryAnn worked at IBM, St. Patrick’s High School, and the Greene County DMV during her career. She was known for her dedication, kindness, and warm smile.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, MaryAnn found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. She was a faithful communicate of St. Patrick's Church in Athens for 65 years where she loved singing in the church choir.
MaryAnn enjoyed spending winters in Florida with her husband and “gallivanting" to her favorite stores. She was proud of her Irish Heritage, which included a trip to Ireland, Hawaii and many, many cruises. Above all, she treasured being a grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, bringing her endless joy, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
MaryAnn was known for her practical wisdom and memorable expressions. Whether reminding her family about “the bottom line” or shrugging off life’s challenges with “it is what it is,” she had a way of keeping things in perspective and bringing comfort to those around her.
MaryAnn will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering love for her family, and the kindness she shared with everyone she met. Her legacy of love, faith, devotion, and the many memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday July 13, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 24 N Washington Street, Athens, NY 12015. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the family plot next to her late husband Jack at Athens Rural Cemetery, Athens, NY.
