Mary Jane (Roeben) Zanchelli of Athens passed away on August 28, 2026, in Hudson, NY at the Firefighter’s Home.

She was born on June 14, 1936, to Anna Kniffen and Karl Roeben.

She attended Coxsackie-Athens High School and graduated in 1955, which was the first class to graduate from the newly built high school.

Through her determination and dedication, Mary Jane became a licensed practical nurse after successfully graduating from the Albany Medical School for licensed practical nurses in 1956. She later married Addolorato M. Zanchelli, a Korean War Veteran, on May 19, 1957. They were married for 55 years and together, they had four children: Michael A. Zanchelli (deceased); Maria A. (Zanchelli) St. John and husband Mario of Upland, CA; Joseph K. Zanchelli and wife Cathy of Coxsackie; and Jane Zanchelli of Plattsburgh.

Mary Jane is also survived by ten grandchildren: Michael Zanchelli, Austin Zanchelli, Mario St. John (Courtney,) Antonio Joseph St. John, Angelo St. John (Cynthia), Marco St. John, Rachel Zanchelli, Annie Zanchelli, Alecia Cawthorne (Ian) and Erica Underwood (Ralph).

Mary Jane is survived by her two brothers, Robert Roeben (Colleen) of Las Vegas, NV and Joseph Roeben of Alexandria, VA, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by brothers Bruce Nelson, Paul Roeben, Karl Roeben, Thomas Roeben and a sister Irene.

Mary Jane was previously employed by Albany Medical Center and later worked for Dr. John Vosburgh in Catskill for many years. She was president of the Athens Mother’s Club for two years and a life member of both the VFW 770 Catskill Auxiliary and the Athens Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She later joined the Athens Senior Club, as well as the Red Hat Club.

Mary Jane was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Athens, NY. Some of Mary Jane’s favorite hobbies included reading, watching Wheel of Fortune, crafting, bingo, as well as shopping at Kohl’s. She was well known for her vast collection of flashy hats, jewelry and her keen sense of fashion.

The family of Mary Jane would like to add a special thank you to the Firefighter’s Home in Hudson. The staff of 2 West in particular, for their dedicated care of Mary Jane, which included doting over her and never failing to make her feel extra special. Mary Jane was always treated with dignity and respect, and the kindness of the staff and volunteers will never be forgotten.

A private Mass of the Christian Burial will be held by her immediate family to honor Mary Jane’s life.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the W.C. Brady’s Funeral Home in Coxsackie.
