Levi Thomas Dempsey, age 12, went home with Jesus on Friday, July 31, 2026, in Maplecrest, NY following a tragic accident. Levi was the much-loved son of Ryan and Alisa Dempsey and brother to Chris Viola and Payton, Kensi, Kanin, and Cade Dempsey.
Levi was full of life and energy, often playing football or baseball or soccer with his siblings and friends in the front yard, or riding his bike around the farm, gathering sap with the old tractor in the early springtime, or acting out epic battles with his brothers and friend Marcel in and around the family home. He was an avid football fan and could school anyone on the ins and outs of the game. On a hunting trip to Wyoming last October, he got his first whitetail buck with his dad and Papa. Last winter, he decided to give skiing a good try, and by the end of the season he was excellent. He was a champion at Bible sword drills in Sunday School, and he had an excellent memory for the details of each Bible story. Levi played in the Mountaintop Little League. He loved popcorn and s’mores and campfires and everything cowboy. He had a passionate love for history. He was always ready to help and stand up for the underdog. He was an old soul.
From his earliest years, Levi’s best friend was his great grandfather, “Gramps” He loved building Legos and models with his brothers Kanin and Cade, almost just as much as he loved wrestling on the floor with them. He loved playing sports in the yard with his big brother Payton, running football routes and having fun, or going with him for ice cream or out to breakfast. His signature cowboy hat came from his sister Kensi, who had him try it on one day and never before had a hat fit someone so perfectly. He loved sledding with his big brother Chris, dragging the sled behind the snowmobile up the big hill and racing all the way down.
Levi was predeceased by his great grandparents, Gilbert and Roberta Vining (Gramps and Gigi); his great grandfather Frankie Phillips; and his great grandparents Ernest and Jeanette Dempsey.
Levi is survived by his parents Ryan and Alisa Dempsey; his siblings Chris Viola and Payton, Kensi, Kanin, and Cade Dempsey; his grandparents Ron and Leann Vining, Rod and Patti Dempsey and Richard and Alecia Hinckley; his great grandmother Mildred Phillips; and lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is dearly loved and missed by all who loved him.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Mitchell Hollow Mission Church in Windham, NY. Burial will be private.
There will be a reception following at Windham Mountain.
