Julia Camille “Cam” Wood, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, love, service, and dedication to those around her.

Born on May 13, 1944, in Covington, Kentucky, Julia was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas Lyle Thompson and Dorothy Mae McFarland.

Raised in Lake Worth, Florida, she later moved to upstate New York, where she built a life centered on family, community, and public service. On May 2, 1965, she married the love of her life, Thomas Wood, with whom she shared a beautiful life and built the family she held so dear.

Julia lived a vibrant and full life. She had a deep and abiding love for her family and was a joyful, active presence in her community. An avid golfer, she could often be found enjoying a sunny day on the greens.

Throughout her life, Julia was especially passionate about the youth of Greene County. Her career in public service began as a teacher's aide at Durham Elementary School, where she nurtured and inspired young minds. Through years of dedication and leadership, she advanced her career and ultimately retired as the executive director of the Greene County Youth Bureau, where she worked tirelessly to create opportunities and resources for local youth.

Among her many contributions to the community, Julia founded Cam's Cadets, a baton twirling group that she proudly directed for many years. Through this organization, she mentored countless young people, helping them develop confidence, discipline, teamwork, and lifelong friendships. Her impact on generations of Greene County youth remains one of her most enduring legacies.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Wood; her parents, Thomas and Dorothy; her brothers, Thomas and Dennis; and her sister, Patricia Orlick.

Julia's spirit and memory will be forever carried on by the family who survives her, including her devoted daughters, Jodi Wood and Lisa (Jack) Butler; her cherished grandchildren, Travis, Garet, and Alexandra; her adoring great-granddaughters, Mia and Harleigh; her sisters, Martha Karen (John) Shanahan and Nora Kay Thompson; and many special nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by an extended family and a community of friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support.

Julia will be remembered for her loving heart, her dedication to family, her commitment to serving others, and the countless lives she touched through her advocacy for young people. The beautiful life she built and the legacy she leaves behind will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 6. Calling hours will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home in Catskill, New York, followed by a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. at the Catskill Cemetery.
