Joseph J. Murray Sr., 88, of Freehold, passed away peacefully at his home on April 30, 2026.

Born in Grassland, NY, he was the son of the late James J. and Evelyn Murray.

Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960 as a member of the military police. During his service, he was deployed overseas and continued to serve for an additional three years in the reserves.

He went on to work for many years as a heavy equipment operator and foreman in North Conway, New Hampshire.

Joe married the love of his life, Genevieve “Jenny” Campanaro, on June 16, 1962. Together, they raised three loving children.

Survived by his loving wife, Jenny Murray, of Freehold; his daughter, Loretta (Joe) Rogerson of Bartlett, NH; his son, Joseph (Carolyn) Murray Jr. of Cairo; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Evelyn Murray; his sister, Mary Dodson; and his beloved daughter, LisaAnn.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Burial with Military Honors will take place immediately following in Town of Catskill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joes honor may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
