With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Joseph E. Vriale on February 25, 2026, at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by the family he loved so much.

Joe was born on January 27, 1963, in Hudson, NY to Patricia M. Briggs (William Lamb) and Carmine J. "Sonny" Vriale.

Joe was a loving son, devoted husband, proud father, caring brother, fun-loving uncle, and a loyal friend. He was the kind of person who never hesitated to lend a hand; whether you needed help fixing your car, moving something heavy, or just needed someone to make you laugh when you needed it most. Joe had a natural gift for humor and could brighten any room with his quick wit, warm smile, and unforgettable personality. He never met a stranger only friends he had not yet met. If you knew Joe, you loved him. Joe had a multitude of friends he considered family.

Joe is survived by his mother Patricia M. Briggs of East Greenbush, NY and Newport Richey, FL. Barbara DuVal-Vriale, his wife and best friend of twenty-eight wonderful years; a bond built on love, laughter, friendship, and true partnership. Joe and Barb celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a vow renewal and took a cross country second honeymoon this past year. He was the cherished Dad of Craig Jeffrey Gottenberg (PattiAnn). He was a loving brother to Lawrence Vriale (Melissa Drabek) and a proud uncle to his many nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored. Also survived by his aunts, uncles and many cousins who meant so much to him.

Joe was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Ernest, and Emily (O'Brien) Briggs, paternal grandparents Lawrence J. and Antoinette Vriale, his father Carmine J. "Sonny" Vriale, his sister, Lisa Marie Corratti, and his favorite uncle Edward M. "Uncle" Briggs.

Joe was the proud owner of North East Auto Sales in Cairo, NY, where he built more than a business; he built friendships and trust within his community. He was also a dedicated member of the Elks Lodge in Cairo, NY and eventually transferred membership to Elks Lodge, Catskill, NY. Joe was an active member of the Catskill Yacht Club were he served as Assistant Dockmaster, Gas Chairman, Bar Chairman and in 2019 was elected Commodore.

Joe was known by many and loved by all, and his absence will be deeply felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. More than anything else, Joe's greatest joy was his family and friends. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, kindness, and love. His stories, jokes, shenanigans, and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Joe will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. His legacy of kindness, humor, and generosity will live on in all of us.

In true Joe fashion, Joe never wanted anyone to be hungry. That being said, in lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations to the local food pantry.
