Jack Schane, 78, of Hunter, New York passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Albany Medical Hospital in Albany, New York.

Born on April 12, 1948, in Easton, PA. Jack was the son of the late Glenmore Schane and Jean (Grey) Schane. He was raised in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, where he graduated from Phillipsburg High School then continuing education at Rutgers University. Jack became a ceramic engineer.

After years of hard work, he was fortunate to retire early, giving him the opportunity to enjoy many wonderful years traveling, exploring and spending time with his beloved wife, Jan.

Jack enjoyed an active life and had a love for the outdoors. His favorite pastimes included, golfing, skiing, hiking, and spending time at the shore and on the beach. Most of all just being around friends and family.

Jack was a longtime member of the Lions Club in Greene County and volunteered with the Greene County Senior Volunteer Program delivering Meals On Wheels for 30 years. In the village of Hunter, Jack and Jan made a lasting contribution by creating and maintaining the monument honoring Wally Gallagher who served as president of the Lions Club for many years. They also showed their generosity by preparing Thanksgiving dinners for members of the community who had no family to share the holiday with.

Jack took particular pride in bringing holiday spirit to the community. For the past 10 years, he decorated the Christmas trees at Dolan’s Lake and decorated the poles around the lake as well. His efforts became a special part of the holiday season for the community.

Jack was predeceased by his parents Glenmore and Jean Schane. He is survived by his loving wife Janice “Jan” Schane, his sister Carolee Tettemer, and her husband William, his brother-in-law, Robert Vaccaro and his wife, Regina and several nieces and nephews.

Jack will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, generous heart, his devotion to Jan and the lasting happiness he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
