Douglas Griffin, 61, of Athens, New York, passed away on June 2, 2026. He was born on May 4, 1965.
Doug was a proud lifelong resident of Athens, a community he loved deeply and was honored to call home. He spent his career as a skilled welder for.
Doug was predeceased by his beloved wife, Carole (Fisher) Griffin; his parents, William Griffin and Arlene (Starke) Hallsted; his stepfather, Robert Hallsted; and his sister, Stephanie Griffin.
He is survived by his loving sisters, Ina Griffin-Guilzon (David), Caroline Holm and Joyce Moore. Stepson Billy Riley, grandsons Charles and Cooper, his loving dedicated friend Linda Roberts, as well as many cherished nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
Doug found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved playing his guitar, spending time on his boat on the Hudson River, and sharing food he prepared for friends and family. He was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved, whether enjoying good food, music, or a day on the water.
Those who knew Doug knew there was never a dull moment in his presence. He lived life on his own terms, with a larger-than-life personality, a quick wit, and a knack for finding adventure wherever he went. If you knew Doug, chances are you have a wild, funny, or unforgettable story to tell. He had a way of turning ordinary days into memorable ones and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Doug will be remembered for his generous heart, his love of family and friends, his sense of humor, and the countless memories he created throughout his life. Though he will be deeply missed, the stories, laughter, and love he shared will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Doug's family takes comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on in every song played, every boat ride on the Hudson, every shared meal, and every story told in his memory.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Doug's life on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 4-6 p.m. at Brady's Funeral Home, Coxsackie, New York.
Arrangements have been entrusted by Doug's family to the W.C. Brady's Funeral Home in Coxsackie.
