Christel Overbaugh, 85, of Catskill, New York, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026.

She was born on January 11, 1941, in Berlin, Germany, to Wanda and Alfonse Kowalski.

Christel built a life centered on family, service, and community, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her. She and her husband enjoyed camping in their RV all over the United States, making friends and creating many cherished memories along the way.

She was a dedicated member of the Catskill Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years, serving her community with generosity, commitment, and quiet strength. She will be remembered for her warmth, resilience, and the kindness she extended to friends, neighbors, and fellow volunteers throughout her life.

Christel is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Robert Overbaugh; her devoted children, Thomas (Kathy) and Michael (Lois); her cherished grandchildren, Kylie Overbaugh (Gary Mazzacano), Cara (Thomas) Krzeminski, and Tanner Overbaugh; and her great-grandchildren, Wiley and Kendall Krzeminski. Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

She was predeceased by her parents, Wanda and Alfonse Kowalski, and her brothers, Paul and Gerard Kowalski.

Christel’s legacy lives on through the family she loved deeply and the community she served faithfully. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Tuesday, February 10 from 10-11 a.m. at Traver and McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. by Deacon Michael McDonald. Burial to follow at the Town of Catskill Cemetery.
