Charles “Chuck” Antonelli, 88, of Albany, formerly of Coxsackie, passed away peacefully, on August 21, 2026.

Born March 7, 1938, in Hudson, N.Y., Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Charles, a 1955 graduate of Coxsackie-Athens High School, served for 33 years with the New York State Department of Corrections, retiring as a sergeant in 1991. He was an active member of the Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT), which responded to prison disruptions throughout the state, including the infamous Attica Prison riot of 1971. He also worked for many years as an attendance officer in the Coxsackie-Athens School District.

In his spare time, Charles enjoyed playing cards every Thursday until recently and was an avid fisherman and bowler. He was also happiest when the horses were running and had a ticket in his pocket. But above all, Charles was devoted to his family. He spent summers taking his family on their annual trip to the Jersey Shore—a tradition his children carried on with their own children. Even in later years, he took pride in staying close to his children and grandchildren with regular phone calls, visits, and following their lives from afar.

Charles was predeceased by his parents, Charles Sr. and Eleanor Antonelli, his first wife Carmela Lent Antonelli in December 1994 and his wife Helene Charlotte Antonelli, July 2026.

He is survived by his son, Paul Antonelli (Susan) of Amsterdam, and his daughter, Stephanie Overbaugh (Harry) of Ravena; his grandchildren Brooke Ernst and Austin Longstaff (Katie) of Ravena, Nicholas Antonelli of New York City, and Anthony Antonelli of Miami, Florida; and his great-grandchildren Lincoln Ernst and Ila Longstaff. He is also survived by Helene’s children, Bruce and Pam and her granddaughter Kelsey.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family on Tuesday, September 1 from 10 a.m. to noon at the W.C. Brady Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, NY.

A celebration of Chuck's life will take place at 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Coxsackie.
