Anthony “Tony” Tuczynski of Ponte Vedra, Florida (formerly of Athens & Catskill, New York) passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, after a long battle with cancer, just 9 days shy of his 83rd birthday.

Tony was born on August 29, 1943, in Hudson, New York, to Peter and Catherine Tuczynski. He grew up on his family’s farm on Tuczynski Road in Schodack Landing, New York. He was the oldest of five boys. His upbringing on the family farm helped shape the hardworking, dedicated, and caring man he would become.

After graduating from Niagara University, Tony was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country in Vietnam before being honorably discharged. He then continued his education at Russell Sage College where he obtained his master’s degree.

Tony shared 56 wonderful years of marriage with his beautiful wife, Patricia (Schumacher) Tuczynski. Together, they built a life centered around family and raised four children: Amy, Timothy, Jonathan, and Jill.

Tony dedicated much of his life to educating and serving others. He spent more than 30 years teaching, the majority of which was at Grandview Elementary School, making lasting impacts on generations of students. Beyond the classroom, he directed the CYO basketball league for Catskill-area youth and generously gave his time to St. Patrick’s Church, serving as a CCD teacher and as a member of the Parish Council. When he wasn’t teaching or volunteering, Tony could often be found attending his children’s sporting and school events, renovating and painting homes, or playing poker with friends.

After retiring from teaching in 2002, Tony entered a new chapter of life that gave him more time for the people he treasured most. He cherished every moment spent with his seven grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Retirement also allowed Tony to enjoy activities such as skiing, golfing, and traveling, creating many wonderful memories with family and friends.

Tony lived a life defined by devotion—to his family, students, faith, community, and country. Through more than three decades of teaching, years of volunteering, and, most importantly, the love he gave to his family, he touched countless lives.

His greatest legacy will live on through the family he loved so deeply, the students he taught, the community he served, and the many memories shared by those fortunate enough to know him. Tony was predeceased by his parents, his twin brother, Thomas, and his younger brother, Kenneth.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Patty; his children: Amy (Tony) Caniglia, Timothy (Kari), Jonathan (Romi Paek) and Jill (Robert) Bowtruczyk; his grandchildren: Scarlett, Lucas, Jamie, Mya, Ellie, Raeya and Mari; his brothers Daniel and Roger; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 28 from 4-7 p.m. at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 29 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 66 William Street in Catskill. Burial to follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Catskill.
