Andrew J. Schumacher, 66 of Saratoga Springs, NY passed away suddenly on September 25, 2026.

Born on November 7, 1959, in Catskill, NY, Andrew was the eighth of ten children and spent his childhood exploring nature, fishing, and mischief-making. In high school he was a standout athlete at Catskill High. Shortly after high school, he met his wife Julie. They married in 1985 and shared the next four decades together.

Andy honorably served his country in the United States Army as a member of the Military Police, as well as through 23 years of service with the New York State Police (Troop G and TIMS Detail). He was proud to serve as a first responder following the events of 9/11. He was deputized in the state of Louisiana while aiding in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. After his retirement in 2011, he continued his career in security and private investigation.

Andy was a lover of the outdoors, nature and all animals―especially his beloved dogs Chelsea, Roscoe and Bocephus. He was a social butterfly and the life of every party. Known for his “keen sense of humor” and quick wit, he was a great connector of people and lived his life surrounded by a wide range of friends.

Later in life he enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and his girls including visits to Italy, Portugal, Greece, and Switzerland and being the best Poppy to his grandson Grayson. Most of all, he was immensely proud of his four daughters and all of their accomplishments and never stopped talking about them to anyone who would listen.

He is survived by his wife Julie, daughters Ericka Blackburn (Timothy), Lindsay (Michael Ballestrini), Elizabeth Nitttinger (Michael & Michael, Jr.) and Rileigh, beloved grandson Grayson, brothers and sisters Patricia Tuzcynski, Charlie Schumacher, Michael Schumacher, Joan Abrahamsen, and Judy Kusminsky, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Betty and William Schumacher, his brothers Thomas, Edmund, and James Schumacher and his sister Mary Jane Ames.

The family invites you to celebrate Andy’s life in the way he lived it―to the fullest. There will be calling hours at William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 4-7 p.m.
