CATSKILL―A Catskill man is being sought by police after a pursuit on the New York State Thruway led to a multi-vehicle collision.
At around 1:51 p.m. on January 30, State Police observed a 2021 Nissan traveling southbound on Interstate 87 near Exit 20 at a high rate of speed.
Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to comply, and a pursuit ensued for approximately 19 miles before being terminated near the New Paltz exit.
According to State Police, the vehicle continued traveling at a high rate of speed into the Town of New Paltz.
Troopers later patrolled the area and were advised that the suspect vehicle had been involved in a collision.
During the investigation, State Police said it was determined that the 2021 Nissan had been pursued by the Catskill Police Department prior to entering the Thruway.
It was further determined that once the vehicle entered the Village of New Paltz, it was traveling westbound on Main Street when it struck the rear of a 2021 Mazda that was turning left onto North Front Street.
The Nissan continued westbound and struck the rear driver side of a 2020 Tesla that was traveling eastbound, troopers said. Then, after striking the Tesla, the Nissan continued westbound and struck the rear of a stationary 2012 Suzuki in the westbound lane, becoming wedged between the Tesla and the Suzuki.
No injuries were reported as a result of the collision, troopers said.
State Police patrolled the area for the operator of the Nissan, later identified as Naveah J. Jackson, 21, of Catskill.
Jackson had not been apprehended as of Monday and fled the scene of the collision. A search of the area was conducted with negative results, troopers said.
