




COXSACKIE―A 16-year-old is facing serious charges following a crash last fall that left four other teens injured.
The one-car accident happened on Saturday, September 13 at approximately 3:17 p.m. on State Route 81 in Earlton, just west of County Route 51.
According to troopers, the 16-year-old driver from Earlton was operating a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on State Route 81 when they lost control of the vehicle. The car exited the roadway and struck a rock embankment.
Multiple EMS agencies and two LifeNet helicopters responded along with the Earlton Fire Department.
“There were four additional juvenile passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. All five occupants sustained varying degrees of injuries and were transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment,” State Police had reported.
On Thursday, January 22, the 16-year-old driver was formally charged by State Police with first-degree vehicular assault and aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, both felonies; and second-degree reckless endangerment, driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired, reckless driving and acting in a manner injurious to a child, all misdemeanors.
They were arraigned, released on their own recognizance and scheduled to appear in Greene County Family Court.
Due to the age of the driver, their identity has not been publicly disclosed.
