CATSKILL—Bridge Street Theatre will present the regional premiere of Monsters of the American Cinema by Christian St. Croix, directed by acclaimed theatre artist Tony Speciale, running May 28 through June 7 at Bridge Street Theatre in Catskill.

Set over four days in a Southern California trailer park, the play follows Remy, a Black, gay man who inherits a drive-in movie theater and becomes guardian to his late husband’s teenage son, Pup. As the two bond over their shared love of classic horror films, the line between fiction and reality begins to blur in increasingly unsettling ways.

Blending humor with emotional tension, Monsters of the American Cinema explores grief, masculinity, identity, and accountability through an intimate two-person story presented in Bridge Street Theatre’s close-up, 84-seat venue.

The production is directed by Tony Speciale, founder of Plastic Theatre and former Artistic Director of Abingdon Theatre Company in New York City. His directing credits include Unnatural Acts at Classic Stage Company, which received Drama Desk and GLAAD Media Award nominations, as well as productions at Hartford Stage, Actors Theatre of Louisville, The Old Globe, Alliance Theatre, and St. Louis Rep. He is the recipient of a Princess Grace Theatre Honorarium and currently teaches performance and directing at SUNY New Paltz.

The production stars Robert Zelaya as Remy and Nicholas Snipes as Pup.
