GREENE COUNTY―The average cost of a gallon of regular gasoline was at $3.82 in Greene County on Monday, up 51 cents in two weeks, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).
The nation’s average price per gallon has risen 24 cents over the last week and stands at $3.95 as the war in Iran reached the 24-day mark, AAA reported.
Statewide, the average price per gallon is $3.86, up from $2.99 a month ago. In New York, the average price for a gallon of diesel stood at $5.53 on Monday, up $1.54 in the last month.
“Gas prices continued to rise nationwide over the last week as seasonal factors, combined with ongoing supply concerns tied to the continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, pushed both gasoline and diesel prices sharply higher,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said on Monday.
GasBuddy compiles data from more than 12 million individual price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
“It now appears increasingly likely that the national average price of gasoline will reach the $4-per-gallon mark—potentially as early as this week—for the first time since 2022, while diesel prices are surging to multi-year highs, with some markets nearing record territory,” De Haan said.
“There are few signs of stabilization so far, as global oil prices continue to climb and early indications suggest consumers may begin to pull back in response to the rapid pace of increases,” he added.
The states with the lowest average prices are Oklahoma ($3.21), Kansas ($3.25), and Iowa ($3.33).
The states with the highest average prices are California ($5.75), Washington ($5.23), and Hawaii ($5.19).
The states with the lowest average diesel prices are Kansas ($4.51), Oklahoma ($4.52), and Missouri ($4.61).
The states with the highest average diesel prices are California ($6.88), Washington ($6.36), and Hawaii ($6.17).
