GREENVILLE―Kelly’s Pharmacy has once again grown its footprint, this time to Saratoga County.

The Kelly family announced on Wednesday that they have acquired O’Brien Pharmacy, a Ballston Spa institution that has been serving the community for more than 60 years.

“We are proud of what we’ve built at Kelly’s Pharmacy over the years, and when the opportunity arose to continue the O’Brien legacy, we knew it was something we could not pass up,” Quinn, Rebecca and Marty Kelly stated.

After opening their first location in Greenville in 2012, the Kelly’s expanded to West Coxsackie in 2014 and Delmar in late 2023.

“Sean O’Brien, his father, and the entire O’Brien Pharmacy team have built something truly special in Ballston Spa. They created more than a pharmacy. They built relationships, earned trust, and became part of the fabric of their community. That kind of legacy cannot be bought. It can only be earned, one patient at a time,” the Kelly’s stated.

“As pharmacists ourselves, we have tremendous respect for what Sean and his family have accomplished. We know firsthand the hard work, long hours, and commitment it takes to build an independent pharmacy that generations of families rely on,” they added.

Over the last 14 years, Kelly’s Pharmacy has won numerous awards and accolades, including being honored as the Greene County Chamber of Commerce 2022 Small Business of the Year. In 2021, the family-owned, independent pharmacy was presented with a New York State Senate 2021 Empire Award by Sen. Michelle Hinchey.

Kelly’s was the first pharmacy in New York State to partner with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to collect potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Early on in the pandemic, their Greenville location served as one of the only sites in Greene County to offer Covid-19 testing.

Located at 4 Front Street, O’Brien Pharmacy will remain under the same name, as a Kelly’s Pharmacy Company. All O’Brien Pharmacy staff will be staying on.

“While ownership may be changing, the mission remains the same: take care of people, do what’s right, and provide the kind of personal service that only an independent pharmacy can offer,” the Kelly’s stated.

“Sean and his family have carried the torch for decades,” they added. “We are humbled by the opportunity to carry it forward.”
