TANNERSVILLE―U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents allegedly detained at least one person following two separate enforcement actions on the mountaintop Wednesday morning, according to the Columbia County Sanctuary Movement.
The organization says it confirmed that shortly before 8 a.m. a “raid involving multiple agents in vests, with rifles and an unmarked dark blue Dodge Durango” took place near the Sunoco gas station on Main Street in Tannersville.
“The raid occurred in front of children on a school bus, causing significant trauma. The raid focused on a group of painters and we have not yet confirmed how many people were detained. We are following up on multiple unconfirmed reports in the area,” the group stated.
The Columbia County Sanctuary Movement also reported that it confirmed a father of three was detained by ICE around 8 a.m. in Windham during a vehicle raid. No additional details were immediately provided.
Founded in 2016, the Hudson-based non-profit “organizes with immigrants and allies to collectively support, empower, and defend our communities.” They maintain a hotline to report ICE raids or detentions and post local ICE activity on their Facebook page.
The last time the group reported ICE being in Greene County was January of 2025 when agents detained two men at a Cairo worksite.
ICE, that operates under the United States Department of Homeland Security, has not confirmed Wednesday’s reported enforcement actions or responded to a request for comment.
