SAUGERTIES―Local genre-blending singer-songwriter Jenna Nicholls will be performing in a benefit concert for Hudson River Sloop Clearwater at The Local in Saugerties at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 11.
The show is the third in a series of benefit concerts commemorating the 60th anniversary of Clearwater founder Pete Seeger’s first pass-the-hat folk picnics, which funded the construction of the sloop.
Nicholls’ music evokes the golden age of the American Songbook, laced with the spirit of Hank Williams and Patsy Cline. With four albums under her belt, including a debut featured in film and television soundtracks, her latest album, The Commuter, produced by three-time Grammy-winner Larry Campbell, delivers vintage Americana with a fresh, cinematic feel. With Campbell’s masterful touch and Nicholls’ unmistakable voice at the helm, the record is a modern classic—a love letter to American music in all its dusty, dreamy glory.
"It's both an honor and a privilege to be included amongst so many talented performers who've played this series. The spirit of Pete Seeger's folk picnics for Clearwater is alive and well in the Hudson Valley, and I'm excited to play my part,” said Nicholls.
The concert will be opened by Hudson Valley native Dorraine Scofield, a seasoned singer-violinist whose decades-long career spans bluegrass, country-rock, and has shared the stage with Waylon Jennings, George Jones, and Charlie Daniels. This event is a project of the Clearwater Festival.
“Music has always been one of the most powerful ways to bring people together and inspire action,” said David Toman, executive director of Hudson River Sloop Clearwater.
“We’re deeply grateful to Jenna for sharing her talent in support of Clearwater and being a part of the musical tradition that continues to inspire and sustain this work,” Toman added.
