Greene County’s final America 250 program is Saturday

HAINES FALLS―Greene County’s 250th Celebration of the Declaration of Independence closing program with Greene County Historian Jonathan Palmer will be held on Saturday September 26 at 11 a.m.
It takes place at the Mountain Top Historical Society, 5132 Route 23A in Haines Falls, in the 1913 restored Ulster and Delaware Train Station, followed by a visit to a waterfall in Twilight Park made famous in Hudson River School paintings.
Palmer’s talk entitled “Canvas and Hemlock: The Revolutionary Dawn of the Catskills” will discuss the new American identity that took place in the Catskill Mountains.
Through the lens of the Hudson River School of Art, attendees will learn how the establishment of the country’s first distinct artistic tradition occurred hand-in-hand with the development of the Catskills: an epicenter of industry and leisure in the young Republic.
