Craft fair to help support the Greene County Animal Alliance

CAIRO—Creativity, community and a good cause come together this holiday weekend, as the first annual Labor Day Craft Fair comes to Angelo Canna Town Park in Cairo on Saturday, September 5.

The event, organized by local resident Courtney Nelson, will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and feature an assortment of local craft vendors, food, music, games and activities for visitors of all ages.

Among the attractions will be a 3D vendor, a photographer on hand to capture the moment and a lemonade stand. Children can also enjoy the playground while their families browse the vendors and enjoy the day's activities.

A raffle will also be held, with all proceeds going toward helping the Greene County Animal Alliance, Nelson explained.

“I have been involved with crafts for a very long time and would love a chance to benefit helping animals here in my home region,” she said.

For Nelson, the charitable component of the event is particularly important at a time when local animal organizations are facing significant demands.

Since 2023, the Greene County Animal Alliance has been raising money through donations, fundraising events and private grants to build an animal shelter within the county.

“I would like to be able to donate some money to these animal charities because they are so overwhelmed right now, and every little bit helps,” Nelson said.

Joyce Lissandrello, treasurer of the Greene County Animal Alliance, said the non-profit organization is grateful for the continuing support from throughout the community.

“We appreciate all of the helpful donations and charities we have received from other local organizations like Witches Along the Hudson and the Crooning Crows at the recent Palenstock concert,” said Lissandrello. “And now we can add this event on Saturday to the roster.”
