SAUGERTIES―A Catskill man was killed Thursday afternoon when his car collided with a dump truck.

It happened around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Route 32 and Old Route 32 in Saugerties, police said.

One vehicle, a 2022 Volkswagen traveling southbound and operated by a 73-year-old man from Catskill, struck a 1988 Freightliner dump truck being operated by a 57-year-old man from Palenville, according to the Saugerties Police Department.

Neither of the drivers have been publicly identified.

The 73-year-old male was treated at the scene by members of the Centerville Fire Department and Diaz Ambulance before being transported to HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the dump truck was not reported to have been injured.

The investigation remains ongoing and is being handled by the Saugerties Police Department with assistance from the New York State Police and the Ulster County District Attorney's Office Collision Reconstruction Team.
