Cats, owls, bears and more to be sold this weekend

GREENE COUNTY―Cats, owls, bears and woodland animals that adorned the streets of Catskill, Coxsackie, and Cairo this summer will soon find their forever homes.

The statuettes will hit the auction blocks this weekend when bidders will have an opportunity to take home their own one-of-a-kind masterpiece designed by a local artist.

The 20th annual Cat’n Around Catskill public art exhibit featured 76 unique fiberglass felines. The number intentionally coincided with the year 1776 and the country’s 250th birthday.

The Cat’s Meow Auction takes place on Saturday, September 19 at the Historic Catskill Point. Viewing and hors d’oeuvres are from noon to 1 p.m. Live bidding is from 1-6 p.m.

In Cairo, where bears have traditionally been king, this year’s bruins were joined by an assortment of foxes, stags, rabbits, eagles and turtles.

Thirty-five statuettes will go to auction on Sunday, September 20 from 12-4 p.m. at Old Factory Brewing Company on Main Street in Cairo. Organized by the Cairo Development Foundation (CDF), the project raises funds to support Main Street revitalization projects.

In Coxsackie, 34 owls that were perched throughout town will be auctioned off on Sunday, September 20 from 1-4 p.m. at The Wire Event Center on South River Street.

And in Greenville, where ducks are quintessential, Community Partners of Greenville is sponsoring a Quack Quack Greenville fundraiser with two special ducks marking the country's 250th Anniversary.

One duck is being raffled off, while the other will go home with the winner of a silent auction on Greenville Day, September 26. Both are on display at the Greenville Public Library.
